Andy Cagnetta’s story shows how purposeful networking can become a growth engine. Through United Way of Broward County; Broward Workshop; and the Business Brokers of Florida; he built relationships that strengthened Transworld’s credibility. The lesson is practical: meaningful community participation can create trust; influence; and opportunities beyond one market.

Andy came down to Florida in 1995. While looking to buy a business, he encountered a company named Transworld Business Brokers. He continued his search for a business but was offered a position at Transworld as an agent. He joined the company and quickly became one of South Florida’s top performers.

In 1997, Andy acquired the firm and has since scaled it into the world’s largest business brokerage with more than 250 offices with a global footprint that includes the U.S., Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the Middle East, and beyond. Since Andy acquired and rebranded the company, Transworld Business Advisors has facilitated over 15,000 successful business transactions – helping entrepreneurs in a wide variety of industries to buy and sell businesses ranging from mom-and-pop shops to multimillion-dollar enterprises.

Andy is a recognized speaker and trainer in the subject of business sales, valuation and negotiations. He has taught his self-authored negotiations class to associations, companies, sales teams, government agencies, high school and university students.

He has hosted his signature charity event “Andy’s Family Pasta Dinner” for over 20 years and raised nearly $2 million for LifeNet4Families.

Company: Transworld Business Advisors

We are thrilled to have you join us today, welcome to ValiantCEO Magazine’s exclusive interview! Let’s start off with a little introduction. Tell our readers a bit about yourself and your company.

Andy Cagnetta : Thank you. It’s a pleasure to be here. I’m Andy Cagnetta, CEO and owner of Transworld Business Advisors. I’ve spent the past 30 years helping entrepreneurs buy, sell, and grow businesses. I acquired Transworld in 1997 when it was a small local brokerage in Florida, and since then, we’ve built it into the world’s largest business brokerage and franchise development firm through our partnership with United Franchise Group.

Transworld specializes in business sales, mergers and acquisitions, and franchise consulting. Our mission is simple: to enrich lives through entrepreneurship. We help people achieve their dreams whether that’s selling the business they built or buying the one that launches their next chapter.

What was the defining moment or challenge that prompted you to pivot your business model, and how did you recognize it was time for a change?

Andy Cagnetta : A major turning point in Transworld’s growth came from my decision to become deeply involved in organizations that strengthen both business and community leadership, most notably United Way of Broward County, the Broward Workshop, and the Business Brokers of Florida (BBF).

Serving on the board of United Way taught me the power of collaboration and purpose-driven leadership. It connected me with leaders from every sector who shared a passion for improving our community. That experience reinforced Transworld’s core belief that business success and community impact go hand in hand.

My engagement with Broward Workshop, a group of business and civic leaders focused on regional economic vitality expanded those connections even further. It gave me a broader perspective on policy, infrastructure, and the local business climate, while helping position Transworld as a trusted voice in the small-business ecosystem.

Finally, working within the Business Brokers of Florida network allowed us to raise professional standards, share best practices, and build credibility statewide in our industry. Those relationships not only elevated our reputation in Florida but also laid the groundwork for the national and international franchise system that followed.

Together, these experiences demonstrated that when you invest in your community through leadership, service, and professional collaboration, you create the kind of trust and influence that naturally lead to growth far beyond local borders.

Can you walk us through the most significant change you made to your business model and the immediate impact it had on your company’s trajectory?

Andy Cagnetta : One initiative that stands out is Andy’s Pasta Dinner, a community event I started more than 20 years ago to bring people together in support of a local soup kitchen.  What began as a small neighborhood gathering has grown into one of the largest grassroots fundraising events in South Florida drawing hundreds of attendees, volunteers, families, and local business leaders each year.

That event embodies the spirit of Transworld: building community through connection and shared purpose. The relationships and goodwill created through Andy’s Pasta Dinner didn’t just raise millions for charity—it strengthened our company’s local reputation for integrity, service, and leadership. Those values became part of Transworld’s DNA and helped us attract like-minded entrepreneurs around the world who wanted to be part of something bigger than themselves.

In many ways, the success of Andy’s Pasta Dinner showed us that authentic community engagement builds trust—and trust scales. It’s that same principle that has allowed Transworld to grow from a Florida-based firm into a global network united by common purpose and community values.

How did you convince your team, investors, or stakeholders to embrace such a dramatic shift, especially if it involved risk or uncertainty?

Andy Cagnetta : We empower local ownership. Every Transworld office is independently owned and operated by entrepreneurs who live and work in their communities. That keeps us grounded in local relationships while our global brand provides the systems, training, and marketing reach to compete at scale. It’s the best of both worlds—local expertise with global resources.

What was the biggest obstacle you faced during the pivot, and how did you overcome it to ensure the new model’s success?

Andy Cagnetta : Early on, we found that many small business owners were hesitant to discuss selling because it felt too personal or risky. We overcame that by focusing on education rather than sales—hosting community workshops, publishing guides, and building a reputation for confidentiality and care. That shift from transaction-driven to trust-driven relationships strengthened our business and shaped our long-term strategy.

Looking back, what’s one key lesson from your pivot experience that you’d share with other CEOs considering a major business model shift?

Andy Cagnetta : Start by showing up for your community – not just as a business, but as a partner. Support local initiatives, mentor entrepreneurs, and focus on long-term trust. When your brand becomes synonymous with integrity and impact at home, that foundation will naturally support growth everywhere else. Global success always starts with local credibility.
